LABOR PROVIDES $1 MILLION SUPPORT FOR WA’S CHINESE COMMUNITY

Federal Member for Swan, Zaneta Mascarenhas and Federal Member for Tangney Sam Lim, today welcomed Foreign Minister Penny Wong to Bentley to announce that a re-elected Albanese Labor Government will continue support for the Chung Wah Association to build a new community centre.

The Chung Wah Association is an important voice for Western Australia’s Chinese community and was founded in 1910.

This $1 million election commitment builds on existing state and federal funding and will support the construction of a community centre at 1 Nyamup Way in Bentley.

The two-storey facility will include a main performance hall, a dining hall, two dance studios, three activity rooms, office spaces, landscaped gardens, and a car park.

The centre will be used for aged care respite services, Chinese cultural activities, community events, and bilingual daycare programs.

This funding highlights the Albanese Labor Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting multicultural communities in Swan.

Consistent with past practice, election commitments will be delivered in line with Commonwealth Grants Rules and Principles.
